MAT obtained his B.Sc degree in Chemistry in 1992 (UCM). Then he joined to Rafael Bragado’s group at Fundación Jiménez Díaz, where he obtained his PhD degree (2000, UCM) for the study of the relationship between T cell receptors variability and autoimmune diseases. After that, he joined Carlos Guijarro’s group in Fundación Hospital de Alcorcón to study genetic markers for cardiovascular stroke.

In 2003 MAT joined Manuel Rico’s group, where he focused in different topics: allergen structure and its relationship with the location of epitopes, centrosomal proteins and their interactions as a function of different environments, intrinsically disordered proteins and domains and their propensity to adopt some preferred conformations and proteins containing aminoacids repeats and its influence in its implication in their function or their implications in disease.

Since 2013 MAT got a permanent position as Protein Expression and Purification Laboratory Manager. The lab is equipped with technological resources for molecular biology techniques and for obtaining recombinant proteins in E. coli. His scientific interests are to incorporate innovative technologies related to protein expression, as cell free protein expression, selective isotopic labelling and alternative microorganisms for expression.

He is an almost professional comic book reader, amateur cellist and beginner birdwatcher.
