Rubén began his studies at the Faculty of Chemical Sciences and Technologies (FCYTQ) of Ciudad Real, obtaining a BSc in Chemistry in 2019 from University of Castilla – La Mancha (UCLM). Before graduating, he was an internal student at the Regional Institute for Applied Scientific Research (IRICA) of Castilla - La Mancha, under the supervision of Prof. Antonio de la Hoz and Dr. M.ª Victoria Gómez, where he studied the use of radiofrequency microcoils to increase sensitivity in NMR spectroscopy and its combination with hyperpolarization techniques. He also obtained the 2018 JAE-Intro High Performance Scholarship to develop organic semiconductors at the Institute of Materials Science of Madrid (ICMM-CSIC) directed by Dr. Berta Gómez-Lor. Once graduated, Rubén was accepted into the prestigious European MSc in Theoretical Chemistry and Computational Modelling of Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM), completing it in 2021. During this period, he realized his master’s thesis at the Institute for Medical Chemistry (IQM-CSIC) supervised by Prof. Ibon Alkorta, studying computationally organoborone compounds with potential applications in Medicine. The same year Rubén joined the NMR Protein Group of the “Rocasolano” Institute for Physical Chemistry (IQFR-CSIC) to carry out his PhD in Molecular Biosciences under the direction of Dr. Douglas V. Laurents and Dr. Miguel Mompeán, thanks to a Research Personnel Training (FPI) grant of the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation to study polyproline II (PPII) helices in macromolecular condensates and for applications in Biotechnology.
